Gee thanks Jake for the encouraging word! I think a scooter would not do well on the AT. And, I'm not an old fart yet either! My Virgina Blues are gone, as I'll be off=trail for over 2 weeks getting fattened up and hiking in 70 degree weather in Maine after that.

I saw this commercial on TV for a scooter for old people like yourself. This one old fart scooted right up to the edge of the Grand Canyon! Maybe you need one of those to help ya out with your trail blues.

Hang in there Brad. You are a strong and courageous man of God. Lean on the strentgh that He has given to you. "but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint." Isaiah 40:31. Actually the read starting in Isaiah 40:28-31 is very pertaining to you. Allow the Lord to refresh you and carry you on his back. We are praying for you to regain strentgh and endurance. See you soon.

Hey there!
The Virginia Blues got to me big time. I was dehydrated and lost me appetite as well. I got off at Petites Gap after a day of having to take breaks every hour from utter fatigue. I decided to hitch in to Buena Vista. I was most likely just a day or two ahead of you. I got off July 23rd. Unfortunately I didn't have the determination to get back on the trail after seeing that the weather was supposed to get even hotter. So I flew home. I hadn't seen another hiker in 6 days and hadn't seen any NOBOs since Pearisburg! Needless to say I already miss the trail, BUT I will come back next year and finish. Virginia will be much kinder in May 2011. Good luck to you, hope you can stick through the VA blues and head North. God Bless.
